Living in Thailand for thirteen years was an important chapter in my artistic development. During those years I explored painting, batik, photography, figurative work, flowers, tropical landscapes, and illustration.The colour, light, vegetation, and energy of Thailand became a rich source of inspiration and encouraged me to experiment with different ways of working.

Bangkok was also where I held my first exhibition, at a Greek restaurant owned by my good friend. It was an exciting experience and my first taste of the pleasure of sharing my work with others. Surrounded by friends, and their encouraging comments about my paintings, I discovered something else: exhibiting my artwork was fun! It was the beginning of my enjoyment of showing my work and connecting with people through art.

I learned how to batik while holidaying on Koh Samui, Thailand. I continued while on holiday in Bali.

Through my work at the school where I was teaching, I met an American woman who was a photographer. I ended up having a wonderful photo shoot with her, a new experience for me. I love this photo as it shows me as the proud artist of this painting, and it represents me stating, “This is me, I am an artist.”
